ABOUT THE FILM

For nearly 40 years, The Jackson Theatre provided entertainment in the way of movies and traveling shows during the early to mid 20th century to the town of Jonesborough, TN. By the early 1960’s The Jackson dropped its curtains for good. Few photographs or other historical documents existed to help preserve and tell the story of the Jackson during its heyday.

Nearly 60+ years later, on the heal of the grand reopening of The Jackson. A group of life long residents, nearly all octogenarians, share their most memorable time visiting the Jackson when they were young to bring the history of this small town theatre to life.

PROJECT UPDATES

December 1, 2025

The Jackson’ yearlong festival run is nearing a close. We have one more festival we submitted to that makes their selections in early January, however we’re not hoping to find a distribution partner, ideally a public TV station, to program The Jackson so these lovely storie and its history can be viewed by the general public, easily accessible at no cost

August 6, 2025

Our team was thrilled when we received the notification that The Jackson was selected in the Tennessee Short category at the Nashville Film Festival, taking place in September 2025.

June 29, 2025

The Jackson was selected in the Short Doc category at Freedom Festival International, taking place in Columbia, SC in August 2025.

June 15, 2025

We were excited to hear The Jackson was selected to, small, yet beloved, Bedford International Film Festival that takes place each summer in the small town of Bedford, VA. Sadly due to funding issues they had to cancel this years festival last minute. Nonetheless, we were really honored to have our film selected by their selection team.

June 11, 2025

The Jackson, was selected to screen at the 2025 Richmond International Film Festival, taking place September 23 - 28 in Richmond, VA. The Jackson will be apart of a amazing slate of films in RIFF’s virtual screenings which we’re quite excited about.
